A private survey showed Monday that 49.8 percent of women and 36.5 percent of men are saving the government's child allowances to prepare for their children's future.

According to the questionnaire by Mochida Health Care Co., 36.8 percent of men, the largest single group among men, said they were spending the monthly allowances on their children's educational expenses.

Among employed women, 24.2 percent said they were spending the allowances for the same purpose.

But the majority of full-time housewives and women on child care leave said they were saving the allowances for their children's future.
